What is Traditional Healing? I think of Traditional Healing as a philosophy and belief that we all have the capacity for healing ourselves, and that our ancestors developed the tools and left us the gift to be able to help each other. These tools have survived through thousands of years because they have worked, empirically, which is another form of evidence-based medicine. Slowly, science and medical researchers are identifying the mechanisms and showing these ways to be effective and have great benefit
As high as 80% of the symptoms and diseases that people experience are secondary to stress, and have emotional and spiritual distress and imbalance as foundational factors. Lifestyle choices are also affected by a person's emotional state, and there is increasing acceptance that basic lifestyle issues of nutrition, sleep and activity are key to health.
Modern conventional medicine is limited by not having a lot of tools to help with these stresses and imbalances. I found my model for holistic healing through Traditional Healing; with the help of traditional healers/teachers, I learned to heal myself and be able to help others learn ways to work toward their own healing.
My approach integrates my life experience, with teachings from traditional ways, along with my knowledge base from allopathic medical training. I have retrained myself to combine education and counseling about functional nutrition from a food as medicine perspective with healthy lifestyle, including mind body medicine and resilience training. I work with hands-on energy healing, cranial-sacral therapy, visceral manipulation and micro-current therapy, because we are all vibration and energy and a great deal of healing can happen at that level. Plants are our first medicines and I ask for their help in many different ways. And I engage with emotional-spiritual healing through counseling, heart-to-heart talks (platicas), energy clearings (limpias), ritual and ceremony, depending on the individual needs and resonance with particular approaches.
I teach self-care through some of the tools that are amenable e.g. the maya abdominal massage/self care, and ways to keep one's energy clear, as I believe we each need ways to take care of ourselves and to influence others to do the same. And I teach classes in traditional healing as well as personal growth and development with a holistic philosophy, including body, mind, emotions and spirit
